A child provides comfort in an ‘awkward question’

Today on Good Friday we went as a family to a dam for a fish braai. As we arrived, one of the children in the family ran up to me, threw his arms around me and asked… Did your baby really die? So I said yes it did, it was very small and it stopped growing. He asked if I was sad and I said yes, very sad. And he said… Ahhhh, I’m sad too… I really wanted you to have a child. All the adults looked like they wanted the earth to swallow them up but his absolute innocent acknowledgement was so very touching, such a breath of fresh air and exactly what I needed. I thanked him for his honesty.
